Capture Memories in a Sea of Purple: Lavender Field Mini Sessions
The air is sweet with fragrance, the sun dips low casting a golden glow, and endless rows of lavender stretch before you. It's the perfect setting for enchanting portraits, and the lavender field mini sessions are back!
These mini sessions are a fantastic way to get beautiful photos.
But with a vibrant landscape like this, how do you prepare to get the most out of your mini shoot? Here are some helpful hints to ensure your lavender field mini session blooms with delightful memories:
Embrace the Wildflowers (and Wild Ones!)
Lavender fields are magical for kids. Let them twirl, run, and explore! Capturing their genuine joy amidst the flowers creates some of the most heartwarming photos. Don't worry about perfectly posed smiles – we'll capture their natural energy and the pure delight of the moment.
Tempting Tiny Gazes
It's natural for kids to gravitate towards parents during a shoot. Here's a pro tip: to get those captivating candid smiles, we'll use playful prompts and silly noises to grab their attention. It can be confusing and distracting for kids when the photographer and the parents are both trying to get their attention. This usually happens when I’m trying to get a smile so the kiddo ends up looking at the parent and not the camera. If possible, let me try to get their attention and if needed, I’ll call in backup (you).
What to Wear: A Symphony of Soft Colors
The lavender field itself is a masterpiece of color, so let your outfit complement it beautifully.
Soft, neutral tones like whites, creams, pinks and even purples photograph so well.
Don't be afraid to add a pop of color that picks up on the lavender hues – think flowy maxi dresses, pastel shirts, or floral prints.
I especially love when families coordinate and don’t match. Yellows and blues are my favorite for the fields. But I also love when pinks, muted purples,. sage and white are mixed together.
Multiple colors: Choose a 2-3 colors color palette in the same tone and sprinkle in some neutrals to avoid matching .
Outfits with movement: Picking outfits that can be flowy and show a lot of movement for the girls can create magical images. Stay away from stiff and tight fabrics. Flowy maxi dresses and skirts are a great options. If you are wanting a more casual look, wide leg pants, colored trouser pants, or shorter dresses are also a great option.
Flattering fits: Accentuate what you love and don't hide your entire body.
The fields:
The lavender field that I use is less than an hour from Syracuse, NY.
I do ask that clients are mindful that this is a working farm- no pets please.
And there will be bees doing their jobs, but they are pretty busy and usually leave the humans alone.
If anyone is allergic to bees- this may not be the session for you.
