A memory that is stored
A Unique Perspective from a Photographer Who Knows Parenthood
What makes hiring a professional photographer special is when they bring a personal perspective to their work.
For example, I understand the different dynamics of family life.
I’m a mother of 3.
I became a mom for the first time at 17, then again at 22. Life was full of surprises though so I became a single mom shortly after and stayed that way until I met this bearded guy.
Being a young teen mom may have been the hardest season of my life just because the judgement from others was so strong. I took care of my daughter and worked multiple jobs at once but still people judged.
Now I’m on the other end as my pregnancy for my last was a “geriatric pregnancy” because I was 35.
I’ve been where you are because there is a good chance I’m there now. I can see the raw, beautiful moments of raising kids and also feel empathy during sessions- because, sometimes, kids are stressful. Taking my own photos can sometimes be stressful but I’m always so grateful we do it.
I seriously just blinked and now my oldest is in college and my son is in middle school.
Adding a newborn to our family was such an amazing thing. She was wanted for so long but just took her time getting here.
At one point, after 5 years of trying, we gave up and I splurged on a purebred, fluffy corgi. I named her Betty and she was (and still is) my baby.
I guess the universe just wanted to make sure I got the dream dog and the baby.
Little Flora reminded me to slow down, to simmer.
Babies are only little for so long. And the nights may be incredibly long (she hates her crib and bassinet), but the days fly by whether I give them permission to or not.
She’s only going to be this little for so long, she’s only going to need me this much for such a short period.
And someday, without realizing its happening in the moment, I’ll sleep again. and have money again. and my house will be clean.
My little Flora will do what her siblings did and grow up. I’ll be grateful that I have these photos to look back on.
I know when I look back at them, I’ll be able to remember what her milk breath smelled like and feel her little fingers reaching for mine. The same way I do with the photos of the older two.
A picture is never just a picture. It’s a memory that is stored for you.
Every family has its own unique story. Here’s mine.
What’s yours?
